TCS Latest Interview Experience By A Mechanical Engineer
Thanks for A2A!! After getting the results of TCS National Qualifier Test which was held on September 3rd I got my second mail regarding the interview that it will be held on October 3rd. As I am from Mechanical Engineering background I prepared for what I had mentioned in my Resume and brushed through basic concepts and programs in C/C++. I was excited and also nervous, as this was my First Interview of my life.
I reached the venue at 2pm and there were 32 people sitting with me for the interview. I was given the serial number 33 and was told to write it on all the TCS Documents including Resume. We were also told to mention our semester wise SGPA, CGPA, Backlog History if any and also the Percentage (got from the CGPA) on the second page of the Application form. After a while they collected the TCS Application form, Declaration, TCS Qualifier Hall Ticket and they told us to keep our Resume handy.
My serial number was called in and there were two people taking the interview in that round which was the Technical round. I will list the questions asked by both the interviewers below.
Q1: Tell me something about yourself
A: I told my basic details and about my internship at HAL.
Q2: Tell me about your internship.
Q3: What fuels do Helicopters use? (As I mentioned about HAL :))
Q4: What is your favorite subject in Mechanical? (I told IC Engines)
Q5: What is Scavenging?
Q6: What is the role of Engine oil in an automobile? (Answered by mentioning Lubricating properties)
Q7: What is the need for lubrication? Can you drive a two wheeler without Engine oil?
Q8: What is the purpose of a boiler? Mention different types of boilers.
Q9: What is the difference between casting and moulding? Tell me different types of moulding.
Q10: You have mentioned C++ in your Resume, tell me what is Inheritance, Polymorphism?
Q11: What is a function?
Q1: You are from Mechanical right, Why TCS?
Q2: What is your second favorite subject? (I told Fluid Mechanics)
Q3: What is Archimedes principle? What is buoyancy?
Q4: Tell me few Mechanical properties of metals.
Q5: If I apply pressure on this table and it breaks, what property of the table is responsible for it?
Phew!! I expected CS questions from an IT Company but It turned out to be exactly opposite :). I was told to wait for the HR Round. After 20 minutes I was called in for the HR Round.
Q1: Tell me about your internship.
Q2: Tell me about your family background.
Q3: Who founded TCS? Who is the Chairman of TATA Group?
Q4: If TCS offers you a job and you also get an offer from a Core company which one will you choose?
Q5: Any plans of higher studies?
Q6: Would you like to work in IT or Engineering services in TCS?
Q7: Are you ready to relocate to any part of India and work night shifts?
That’s it, I was told that I could leave and they’ll get back to me regarding the results. The HR kept the copy of my Resume. I walked out with a sigh of relief that I was done with the interview.
I suggest people from non-CS branches (Mech/Civil/EC) to pick two subjects from their branch and go through the possible questions that might come from them. Go through your internship/project details and be prepared for questions on it. And there is no need to get worried as they are mainly looking for your confidence and the way you speak. Speak confidently and maintain eye contact with the interviewer. I wish all the best for people having upcoming interviews.
I am currently awaiting my result.
